Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization

Comprehensive support for understanding Canada’s Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) requirements and completing your application accurately and efficiently.

What is the Canada eTA?

The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a mandatory digital entry clearance for travelers from visa-exempt countries flying to Canada. It applies to short-term visits for tourism, business activities, study programs under six months, or international flight connections.

Citizens of countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, and most European Union member states must obtain eTA approval prior to boarding a flight to Canada. Applications are submitted entirely online, and once approved, the eTA is electronically linked to the traveler’s passport.

You’ll Need an eTA If You’re Visiting Canada For:

An eTA, once issued, is generally valid for up to 5 years or until your passport expires — whichever comes first. It permits multiple short trips to Canada without needing to apply again

Who Needs an eTA?

Since 2016, most travelers from visa-waiver countries have been required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying into Canada. This rule applies whether you’re visiting for tourism, a layover, short-term study, or business purposes.

The eTA is mandatory for every traveler, including minors, even for short visits. It must be linked to the passport used for travel.

You don’t need an eTA if:

  • You already have a valid Canadian visa

  • You’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

  • You’re a U.S. citizen (but U.S. Green Card holders do require one)
